2011 NCAA Tournament Scores Update: George Mason Stuns Villanova – Media Newswire (press release)

Monday, March 21st, 2011

(Media-Newswire.com) – Another stunning upset as the NCAA scores update has George Mason University pulling out a stunning win over Villanova.  George Mason was in an unfamiliar role as the higher seed in their opening game of the NCAA tournament facing Villanova.  It looked like this year’s tournament trip would be a short one for the Patriots, as they trailed by six with less than two minutes to play.

The Patriots got a series of big baskets and Villanova went stone cold to allow George Mason to sneak back in the game, taking the lead for good on a Luck Hancock 3-pointer with 21 seconds to go.  Villanova didn’t make a field goal in the final three minutes of the game and missed three free throws late as well.

Hancock led George Mason with 18 points as the Patriots won their first tournament win since a dramatic run to the Final Four in 2005.  Corey Fisher led Villanova with 20 points and fellow senior Corey Stokes added 14 points for the Wildcats who had lost five straight games coming into the tournament and were unable to halt that losing streak.

Marquette added another name to the list of double-digit seeds winning in the opening two days of the NCAA tournament, shooting 53.3% from the field to upset Xavier 66-55.  The Golden Eagles struggled through a challenging regular season in the Big East, but dominated the Musketeers from the Atlantic 10.  Xavier had made the Sweet 16 three straight seasons, but 19 points from Marquette’s Darius Johnson-Odom and 15 from Jimmy Butler made sure that they wouldn’t make it for a fourth trip.

The Golden Eagles limited Tu Holloway, the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, to only five points in the game as they opened up a 33-20 halftime lead and then held off all of Xavier’s attempts to rally in the second half.  Andrew Taylor led Xavier with 16 points.

Yu-Gi-Oh! March 2011 Ban List – Kidzworld Media

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Mar 15, 2011

Are you a Yu-Gi-Oh TCG Player? Well as of March 1st 2011, a new “ban list” is out, so check that out and make sure you don’t have these cards in your deck if you’re playing competitively!

Why are they banned?

Many of the cards on the ban list are repeats from previous ban lists. Here’s a summary of some of the more powerful cards:

Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning: the ability to attack again once after it destroys a monster or remove a monster on the field from play is way too powerful for the game. That ability along with the same Attack and Defence as Black Luster Soldier makes it a game-breaker.

Chaos Emperor Dragon – Envoy of the End: This card, along with Yata-Garasu and Painful Choice can effectively lock-down the opponent’s deck. In this combination, it is possible to send all monsters in both players’ hands to the graveyard, make your opponent skip their draw turn, and just continue to attack because your opponent has no monster cards to play.

Dark Magician of Chaos: Infinite looping with free spell recursion makes this card “broken”.

Goyo Guardian: Synchro Summon and Exceed Summon with a relatively high attacking power, not to mention the fact that its powers doesn’t come at a cost makes a lot of players feel like this card is over-powered and needs to be balanced.

Thousand-Eyes Restrict: This card can take control of a strong monster on the opponent’s side. The ability to restrict the opponent’s abilities also makes this card too strong.

What are your thoughts on the ban list?

New Middle East Base for Global Technology Development Organisation – SYS-CON Media (press release)

New Middle East Base for Global Technology Development Organisation

Mar. 12, 2011 11:00 PM

ABERDEEN, Scotland, March 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — ITF, the oil and gas industry’s technology facilitator, is gearing up to launch a new base in the Middle East where it plans to attract new members and increase awareness of its global technology funding programme.

Set to open in April, the new office is being established as part of ITF’s ambitious international growth strategy that will also see new bases open up in the U.S, Australia and Asia Pacific.

The organisation has also revealed the appointment of a new in-country regional manager, Ryan McPherson, who will head up the office in Abu Dhabi.

Mr McPherson is tasked with raising awareness of the organisation in the Middle East and Asia Pacific, in a bid to increase ITF membership from major operators and service companies.

He said: “ITF already has some valuable member companies from these regions including Aramco Services Company (subsidiary of Saudi Aramco), TAQA, Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), Petronas and Woodside. However, in order to meet the global industry’s growing technology needs we feel it is vital that we have on the ground representation in these important oil producing regions.”

Mr McPherson takes up the new post after having previously worked as business improvement lead for global services company PSN. He also has a wealth of knowledge with ITF due to previously working for the organisation as a senior technology analyst for three years.

He will be relocating to Abu Dhabi in order to provide a one-to-one service out of the new regional base. The opening of the new office follows on from ITF’s recent technology challenge workshop (TCW) which was held in Kuwait in February. This was the first ever TCW to be held in the Middle East region.

TCWs are organised as facilitated sessions to stimulate informed debate from the expert attendees. Focussing on the technology challenges around enhanced oil recovery (EOR), more than 40 specialists were personally invited from major operators, services companies and academia to ‘fine tune’ the technology requirements within the broader EOR theme.

The top challenges identified by those attending were:

– High temp high salinity solutions
– Screening methods
– Hybrids
– EOR chemical database
– Reservoir management
– Large scale N2 injection
– Heavy oil EOR
– Low cost chemicals
– Simulation gaps
– Smart water

The information from these detailed discussions will now form the basis for a global ‘call for proposals’ which will be distributed to the international technology development and academic communities, calling on them to submit their innovative ideas to tackle these specific industry-wide technology issues.

Another integral part of the workshop was devoted to discussions on setting up a ‘Gulf Cooperation Chapter’ (GCC) to bring Gulf based NOCs and IOCs together to work collaboratively at solving technology challenges in the region. This innovative approach will be driven forward by ITF and other attendees to ensure the successful model can be replicated for a number of technology issues facing companies in the region.

Made up of 25 global oil and gas operators and service companies, ITF is a not-for -profit organisation that drives the development and implementation of groundbreaking technology.

Neil Poxon, managing director of ITF said: “Establishing a permanent presence in the Middle East will enable us to achieve our ambitions of securing a further GBP50 million of investment from members to launch 40 joint industry projects per year by 2015, ultimately bringing game-changing technologies into the field.”

Unprecedented Growth Demands New Workflow and Storage Solutions
March 11, 2011 –

DMN Newswire–2011-3-11–Tennis Channel has called on Integrated Media Technologies, Inc. (IMT), to design and build a new state-of-the-art file-based workflow to allow their broadcast operations, editorial, graphics, and post production teams to share content.

“Recent growth at our network required an expanded approach to production workflow and storage,” said Dean Hadaegh, senior vice president of broadcast operations and CTO, Tennis Channel.  “We contacted IMT because of their well-known expertise in this field, their engineering talent and support services.  Within a short amount of time they diagnosed our specific needs and came up with an across-the-board strategy that allowed us to re-design our operation without any downtime.”

IMT consulted with Tennis Channel to create and implement a new architecture for tiered storage.  The new system connects all of their edit bays running Apple’s Final Cut Pro to a shared storage environment leveraging the StorNext and XSAN File system with high performance Fibre Channel attached storage.

Bruce Lyon, CEO at IMT remarked,  “As big fans of the Tennis Channel, we are especially pleased to have this strategic relationship. The solution we designed was a perfect example of IMT’s fast growing, end to end Professional Services business, which includes our specialized StorNext and Digital Archive Practices.”

IMT worked closely with Tennis Channel to architect an asset management strategy that leverages Apple’s Final Cut Server with custom workflows built by IMT Professional Services.  Tennis Channel can use Final Cut Server to move their content through their file-based workflow from primary storage off to their multi-petabyte capable digital archives managed by MassTech.  Tennis Channel has an LTO archival data tape library at both their Culver City and Santa Monica locations. Utilizing Masstech, they can now move any content file between facilities.

Rob Kobrin, CTO for IMT explained, “This file-based workflow is an excellent example of IMT’s ability to provide comprehensive consulting, design, vendor selection, sourcing, project management, implementation, training, documentation, and ongoing support services.”

The extensive re-design and installation was done entirely at off-hours during a hectic production schedule.  Careful planning was required between the Tennis Channel technical staff, Production Management, and IMT’s Project Management team to assure a smooth transition to the new system.  IMT is also contracted for 24/7 Remote Managed Services as well as Onsite Support Services for the Tennis Channel.IMT
